Shaking things up?
It was apparently a “wild as hell” producers meeting with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and top lieutenant (and son-in-law) Triple H today, as the boss felt like changing plans heading into the summer months.
“Vince knows he wants Rock vs Cena for next year’s WrestleMania, and he thinks everything else is up in the air and up for grabs at the moment,” a key WWE insider exclusively told WrestleZone this evening, “several plans changed today, and I think it’s very fair to say that all plans changing right now .. except for Rock vs Cena, which is as etched in stone as anything ever can be with Vince McMahon in charge!”
As an example, Vince apparently changed gears with his approach to Kia Stevens, the former Awesome Kong, now known as Kharma. “That segment was actually discussed over a week ago, and then it was scrapped in a way that no one thought it should ever be discussed again,” we were told, “all of a sudden, Vince decided to go for it, all the way, and push it hard out of nowhere. The writers are totally on eggshells again because they don’t know which way the wind is blowing, and Vince is changing his mind at every turn.”
In the meantime, we were told Vince was “more hands on than even before” today, demanding to have the talent rehearse every line, and the writers and producers make sure every word on the scripts was rehearsed over and over again.
“It’s going to be an interesting summer,” another WWE source told us, “Vince is just in one of his moods.”
I haven’t read this anywhere else except for Wrestlezone, so take it with a grain of salt.
This is a double-edged sword, it’s both good and bad. On the good hand, Vince seems to be taking a deep, true interest in his product. Everything else for Mania is up in the air? Awesome! They’ve rarely done long term planning the last few years, so the fact that they’re already starting with Wrestlemania talk excites me, it means they have a direction instead of slapping together three extra matches just for the hell of it. I like that he’s having the guys rehearse their promos as it seems like a lot of them are out there and just seem lost or uncomfortable on the mic. Maybe with Vince being much more “hands on” it’ll improve the product.
But on the flip side, having Vince on be super-involved with everything could hurt it more than ever. McMahon is a perfectionist, as we’ve all heard. He biggest downfall is that he works too much, they say. He might become so obsessed with creating that he could very well send this wrestling recession even deeper. At one point he’ll start approving terrible ideas for the mere fact that they can’t come up with anything better. And the stress factor will just add tremendously.
If this story is indeed true, we’ve got an interesting couple of months ahead of us. It seems as though Triple H is very involved with the product and would most likely want to see some changes. Hopefully Triple H is more willing to listen to the fans and just whatever he, or the Boss, wants. And who knows: maybe after all those years we complained about Triple H ruining the product, he’ll actually be the one to save it.
