Can’t believe I forgot about what was one of the biggest moments in recent WWE history. On January 8, 2006, at the New Year’s Revolution PPV, Edge was the first man to cash in the Money in the Bank contract.
Ten months earlier Edge beat Shelton Benjamen, Chris Jericho, Kane, Christian, and Chris Benoit to win the automatic title shot. He got hurt, held onto it for a while, and got pushed like crazy throughout 2005. But then the best thing to ever happen to his career happened: he banged Lita and Matt Hardy got fired. Edge was the most over heel since Triple H killed everyone in 2000. It was ungodly. Hardy came back and was vanquished by Edge, who then entered a feud with Ric Flair for Flair’s IC Title. This brings us to New Year’s Revolution.
They faced off the IC Title in the opener, and it ended in a DQ for Flair after about five minutes. That’s weird, we all thought out loud. Whatever, on to the Elimination Chamber! That match ends early too, and one of my friends says, “I bet Edge cashes in.” Sure as shit:
His reign only lasted 3 weeks (which was a travesty) but it kickstarted Edge as a surefire main eventer and Hall of Famer. It was the best MITB cash in ever and certainly one of the most memorable moments of the 21st Century.
